Busy busy busy…
This month, while I am still participating in the Life & Lit Throwback Event (feel free to comment for more info or an invite!), I’m only really focusing on two things:
If you’re not familiar with either of these…
Book-Tube-A-Thon is an annual week-long readathon where you can check off optional challenges, but the primary goal is to read as much as you can in a week. It started on July 30th and will end August 5th, so technically, we’re already 2 days into it.
#ARCAugust is an annual reading challenge that encourages reviewers to just read as many ARCs as they can in the month of August. The hosts are adding a couple of new twists to the mix this year with a bingo board and two 48-hour readathons! There are also prizes, and just a lot of general camaraderie (especially if you’re active on Twitter).
EMOJI KEY:
? = Book-Tube-A-Thon
? = #ARCAugust
? = POC rep
? = LGBTQ+ rep
✨ = Throwback Event
Book-Tube-A-Thon Reads:
(I know I already did a BTAB TBR post, but I overhauled the entire list to make it mostly ARCs!)
1. Next Year in Havana — Chanel Cleeton — already out ???
The toin coss was between this and Bad Man, so I started this one first! (It still counts for #ARCAugust since it’s a finished copy I was sent to review.)
* update: I am about halfway through this and LOVING it! *
2. The Opposite of Innocent — Sonya Sones — releases september 4th ??
This cover definitely qualifies for the green cover challenge!
* update: I actually finished this one in July! 4/5 stars, review coming soon *
3. Toil & Trouble — Tess Sharpe — releases august 28th ????
I started this earlier in the year and forgot about it, so I decided to set it aside until BTAB. It’s for the challenge involving something I want to do, which is to make fantastic trouble with other amazing women and embrace my inner witch. ♥
4. Our Stories, Our Voices — Amy Reed — releases august 28th ????
This book is short, so I’ll use it for the challenge of wearing a hat.
* I finished this yesterday and really enjoyed it! review coming soon *
5. The Book of Hidden Things — Francesco Dimitri — already out ??
This one is already out, but it counts for #ARCAugust because Titan sent it to me to review just a couple of weeks ago. I’ll use it for the beautiful spine challenge.
6. Gerald’s Game — Stephen King ?✨
This is the only non-ARC title, because obviously, I can’t fill the book-to-film challenge with an ARC! (As a bonus, this fits my “from the year you were born” square for the throwback bingo!)
7. Bad Man — Dathan Auerbach — releases august 7th ??
I’ll use this for the 7th book spot!
#ARCAugust Reads:
(I’m leaving off the rep emojis for some of these because I simply don’t know what they will or won’t have!)
8. To Be Honest — Maggie Ann Martin — releases august 21st ?
Sign me up for all the healthy, own-voice fat rep, please. ♥
9. Sadie — Courtney Summers — releases september 4th ?
I grabbed this from NetGalley because I’m hearing such good things!
10. Worlds Seen in Passing — Irene Gallo — releases september 4th ?
This 40-story anthology is going to be epic.
11. I Do Not Trust You — Laura J. Burns — releases september 11th ?
I was asked to join the blog tour for this one, and it sounded pretty cool!
12. Rule — Ellen Goodlett — releases september 11th ?
I’m buddy reading this with Kaleena and Kelly!
13. The Grey Bastards — Jonathan French — already out ?
Crown sent me this right after it released and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m pretty new to the grimdark subgenre, and I’m hearing this is a great, “fun” introductory title.
14. The Girl in the Green Silk Gown — Seanan McGuire — already out ?
DAW was so kind as to send me finished copies of the 2 books in this series 2 weeks ago, and I have loved the first one so I can’t wait to check out this one!
15. The Sisters of the Winter Wood — Rena Rossner — releases september 25th ??
Not shown in the picture above because my ARC was sadly lost in the mail and a replacement is on its way to me now, but as soon as this beauty arrives, I’ll definitely be starting it! ♥
Miscellaneous Reads:
I only have three things on my TBR that don’t belong to either challenge, and they’re both for series catch-ups:
16. City of Lost Souls — Cassandra Clare ??
17. Clockwork Princess — Cassandra Clare ??
18. Queen of Shadows — Sarah J. Maas
Leftover from July…
Of course, I can’t forget to mention the other books I didn’t finish in July! (BookTubeAThon titles notwithstanding)
Clockwork Prince
Senlin Ascends
Heir of Fire

August 1, 2018Oh wow, good luck with everything! You have tons of book to read and I hope you’ll enjoy them all!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 1, 2018Thank you so much!! I have to try and get them done ASAP before fall semester starts lol!
heather@nightlyreading
August 1, 2018I have Heir of Fire leftover from August too! Are you having a hard time getting into it? I am! It seemed like I breezed through the first two books and am now stuck on this one. I do not want to give up on this series but am trying very hard to get out of this slump!
heather@nightlyreading
August 1, 2018I meant July:D
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 1, 2018Oh no, I hope it picks up for you soon! I actually have been loving it but I had the 7in7 readathon last week and it wasn’t on my TBR for that, and now it’s not on my booktubeathon TBR, so it’s more that I’m having SUCH a hard time making the time for it! 🙁
Alyssa
August 1, 2018You have such a great list of books to get through! Good luck with your challenges, and I hope they’re all great reads!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 1, 2018Thank you so much, Alyssa! I realized after I posted this that my fall class starts in less than 2 weeks and it’s going to have a very full reading list, so now I’m nervous about whether or not I’ll finish this TBR lol!
Kaya @ afictionalbookworm
August 1, 2018Wow, that’s a lot of books! I hope you love all of them! Also that Sisters of the Winter Wood cover is gorgeous XD
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 1, 2018Thank you haha! I don’t think I’ll get to them all honestly but I’m going to try. And omg, isn’t it?! I literally GASPED when I saw it. Black and gold is my #1 aesthetic color combo and I love it.
Kaya @ afictionalbookworm
August 1, 2018Good luck!! That combo is beautiful, more books should utilize it 😀

August 1, 2018Ooooohhhh I really want to read the Grey Bastards but they never responded to my Netgalley request!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 1, 2018Oh no, I’m sorry! 🙁 Maybe you’ll get lucky and they’ll do one of those weird late approvals! I hear it’s pretty good but very weird and funny. I’m not used to humorous fantasy so I’m pretty excited lol.
Victoria
August 1, 2018Good luck with your tbr! I’m also participating in ARC August, and am excited to finally read some of my older ARCs!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 1, 2018Thank you, Victoria! That is an awesome plan. 😀 I’m thinking that if I finish my TBR with any time leftover in the month (unlikely, but a girl can dream!), I will work on backlist ARCs, too. Good luck to you and happy reading!!

August 2, 2018Good luck with the readathons 🙂 I participated in ARCAugust last year, but this time, I am quite busy this month so I’m skipping it. Your TBR looks amazing. Sadie is on my TBR too but I am not sure if I would be able to read it soon 🙁
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 2, 2018Thank you! I hope you enjoy your reading this month, regardless of whether or not you manage to get to any ARCs! 😀
Cora @ Tea Party Princess
August 2, 2018Good luck with your TBR 🙂

August 2, 2018Thank you! ♥ Happy reading this month! 😀
CG @ Paper Fury
August 2, 2018Ahh good luck with these awesome readathons and challenges you’re doing! I confess that I haven’t really joined in anything official for YEArs. ??I’m the worst and just get flustered haha. But I am lowkey trying to knock over more eARCs than I usually do this month, because I have this (wild) idea to go into 2019 without having a ton of guilty “I should-have-read-that” books lurking in the shadows.?So we’ll see. Eeep. I have Sadie to read too! I’ve heard it’s AMAZING.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 2, 2018Thank youuuu! I feel you, I would LOVE to go into 2019 without having, you know, a smothering sense of guilt and shame… lmao. Good luck with your eARCs this month! Hopefully you’ll find a bunch of gems. 😀 I’m hearing nothing but rave reviews about Sadie, too, so I’m VERY excited for that one in particular!

August 2, 2018I am so looking forward to your review on To Be Honest! I basically just love your reviews ?
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 2, 2018Awww thank you, you’re so sweet! ♥ I am aiming to review it the week before it releases so it won’t be much longer!
Kaleena @ Reader Voracious
August 2, 2018You have such a great TBR and I wish you the best of luck reading these! I cannot wait for our Rule buddy read later this month!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 2, 2018Thank you, lovely! ♥ I can’t wait, either, and happy reading this month!

August 2, 2018Lovely post, Destiny! Can’t wait to start on Rule with you and Kaleena! ❤️ And I’m looking forward to seeing your thoughts on Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 2, 2018Thank you, beautiful! I’m so excited for our buddy read. 😀 I think it’s going to be a very fun read. And yesss, I just gotta find time to finish them with all these readathons lol!
