T10T: Ten Books With Autumn Vibes

This is a weekly tag hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and this week’s challenge is to pick ten books that remind you of autumn – either with their covers, their themes, their content, or all of the above! I had a hard time narrowing it down when I was considering books on my TBR, as well, so I finally narrowed it down to titles I’ve actually read.

1. This one’s obvious, of course; the cover feels autumnal as hell to me, and Rook, the love interest, is the prince of the autumnlands, so you can’t get much more fall-themed than AEOR!

2. The Raven Cycle feels super fall-ish to me, especially any time the gang visits Cabeswater. Arbores loqui latine!

3. Though I read my e-ARC of this one over the summer, it immediately transported me to late October, with all those spooky, cool weather vibes and the Halloween-y feel Gomorrah has.

4. Though the first book in this series also gave me some pretty fall vibes, the sequel screams late autumn. I swear, with the spooky castle and the nature of the murders, I came out of this book half expecting it to be crisp and chilly out, with crunchy leaves and dull grey skies.

5. The Wood‘s primary setting is, in case you couldn’t guess, the woods, but they’re spooky, dark, foreboding woods, which automatically makes me think of fall, when there’s all that delicious and creepy electricity in the air.

6. A poor young boy enters an abandoned home, to find a group of strangers swapping ghost stories around a table in a candlelit room. The entire book reminded me so much of sitting around a bonfire, swapping spooky stories, and I loved it. This middle grade horror is absolutely, delightfully eerie.

7. As anyone who has read any of the books in this series knows, the land of Prythian is divided by “courts”: Dawn, Day, Night, and a court for each season. I picked ACOWAR specifically because this is the book in which we learn the most about the Autumn Court, where sweet, lovable Lucien hails from. <3

8. I haven’t read this book in many years, but when I thought about titles for this week’s T10T, it came to mind immediately. I remember it being a fall favorite of mine as a preteen, and the setting definitely fits the scene, if I’m remembering right.

9. If you aren’t familiar with the Shivers series, it was a children’s horror series that was aimed at elementary school aged children. The books each stood on their own, so you could pick up any title and be fine, but The Awful Apple Orchard was my favorite because it terrified me as a kid. Even as an adult, it’s rather dark and gruesome! And most of all, it is a book simply begging to be read in the fall.

10. To be fair, I don’t remember how much the contents of this weird little horror read reminded me of fall, but the cover absolutely feels like a look into those late stages of autumn, where the air is getting colder and shifting into the bleak grey of winter.

      I just knew that The Raven Boys would be on yours, haha. Enchantment of Ravens is on my “BUY THIS”-list.. The more I see it, the more I want it because it’s so freaking pretty. *-*

      I’ve seen Thirteen Chairs around a bit, and it looked really interesting. But how scary is it exactly? I’m a major scardy cat, so I was a little hesitant to pick it up.

        I’m not scared easily, for what it’s worth, but I thought it was more “haunting” than “scary”, if that makes sense? I will say, however, that one story near the end did creep me out! It was about men who get trapped in a blizzard and start disappearing. No ghosts or monsters, but it had that sort of looming dread vibe to it.

      I want to read Hunting Prince Dracula so badly, especially since I visited Bran Castle this year in the summer. And I think The Raven Boys has a fall-ish vibe to it too 🙂

      I was totally going to put An Enchantment of Ravens and Daughter of the Burning City on my list too! I was just too lazy to write one this week. Oops!

      Thirteen Chairs sounds awesome! Adding to my list of spooky books I need to read before October is over.
