Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and is a super fun (and simultaneously productive) tag to help you whittle away at those never-ending TBRs! (By the way, you can click on the covers to go to the Goodreads listings!)
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
- Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!
Current “to-read” shelf: 975 titles
BOOKS 431-435:
Exit West by Mohsin Hamid – added 03.13.17
I don’t hear this book talked about much, but I got it from BOTM Club last year and still think it sounds really good!
Marlena by Julie Buntin – added 03.13.17
I kind of hate that I even got this book from BOTM Club, because I hate adult contemporary and I think it was probably a complete waste of that month’s credit.
Crawlspace by Herbert Lieberman – added 03.13.17
Crawlspaces actually creep me out big time IRL, so this is probably gonna be worth checking out.
Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway – added 03.13.17
I think I bought this because it was marketed “for fans of Sarah Dessen”? Idk if I’ll ever actually read it, but I don’t really want to remove it, either.
Give Up the Ghost by Megan Crewe – added 03.13.17
I was gonna give this author a try, but I consistently see “meh” and bad reviews on almost all of her books, so I don’t feel very enthusiastic about it anymore.
BOOKS 436-440:
Reign of Shadows by Sophie Jordan – added 03.13.17
I don’t mean to be harsh, but… this literally sounds like the most boring, “meh” sort of YA fantasy. 🙁
The Sitter by R.L. Stine – added 03.13.17
I honestly never thought I’d see the day when I felt so “meh” about Stine’s books, but I’m reading this synopsis and just feeling so bored even thinking about it. 🙁
Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider – added 03.13.17
“Boarding school for sick teens”: hm?
“Love is its own cure”: nevermind.
You Come When I Call You by Douglas Clegg – added 03.13.17
I feel like I actually tried to read this before and couldn’t get into it.
Bone Gap by Laura Ruby – added 03.13.17
A lot of my friends love this one, so I’ll give it a go (plus, I’m a sucker for magical realism!).
BOOKS 441-445:
The Iron King by Julie Kagawa – added 03.13.17
I’m kind of surprised I haven’t read anything by Julie Kagawa yet, but this series sounds so good!
Crane by Stacey Rourke – added 03.13.17
This is a new adult Sleepy Hollow retelling that I had totally forgotten I bought, but I kind of want to read ASAP now?
The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness – added 03.13.17
Mainly keeping this because the synopsis says the MC’s best friend is worshiped by mountain lions, and I’m intrigued.
He’s Gone by Deb Caletti – added 03.13.17
I bought this because I love Deb’s book The Nature of Jade, but I didn’t know this was an adult contemporary/mystery, and it doesn’t sound very exciting.
Not Just Voodoo edited by Rebecca Hamilton – added 03.13.17
This is a YA/NA paranormal fantasy anthology, which interested me, but I don’t recognize literally any of these authors. That said, I don’t have a lot of paranormal fantasy in my library, and I already own this, sooo…
BOOKS 446-450:
Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch – added 03.13.17
This was totally a cover buy, buuut I have heard really good things!
Skin by Patrick Logan – added 03.13.17
This was one of those free kindle books that I knew even when I downloaded it, I’d probably never read it. :/ (I’ve since learned to stop doing that, but still.)
Imaginary Friends by Terry Brooks – added 03.13.17
I added this because my fiance loves Terry Brooks, but if I read anything by the guy, it’s probably not going to be this one first.
The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White – added 03.13.17
I mean… it’s Kiersten White? Enough said?
Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes by Rick Riordan – added 03.13.17
I mean… it’s Rick Riordan? Enough said? 😛
BOOKS 451-455:
Universal Harvester by John Darnielle – added 03.14.17
This book just sounds so incredibly interesting to me, and I keep meaning to grab a copy from BookOutlet when they have it in stock, but I keep forgetting.
A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland – added 03.14.17
I really enjoyed Krystal’s book Our Chemical Hearts, and I just got this in a trade a few weeks ago!
Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson – added 03.14.17
I have always heard such good things about this memoir, plus I love stories told in verse.
The Unseen World by Liz Moore – added 03.14.17
Yikes… there is literally NOTHING in this synopsis that sounds interesting AT ALL.
The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson – added 03.14.17
I want to check this series out, but this is book #3 and I haven’t even read #1 yet.
BOOKS 456-460:
The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen – added 03.14.17
I’ve heard way too many rave reviews to remove this one!
The Search for WondLa by Tony DiTerlizzi – added 03.14.17
This book just looks SO GORGEOUS, honestly. I have a hardback and it’s full of the most lovely illustrations. <3
Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins – added 03.14.17
Oh, man… This synopsis sounded kinda cool, but a ton of blogger friends who I have very similar tastes to gave this 1-2 stars. I’ll let you guys help me decide – removing it for now, but should I add it back?
Saga, Vol 6 by Brian K. Vaughan – added 03.15.17
I am WAY too invested in this series to stop now.
Never Never by Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher – added 03.16.17
CoHo and Tarryn in the same place? This is such a recipe for heartbreak that I can’t possibly skip out on it.
REMOVAL PERCENTAGE THIS WEEK: 40%
(Why do my percentages keep going down?!)
DO YOU THINK I SHOULD HAVE REMOVED (OR NOT REMOVED) ANY OF THESE TITLES? IF SO, COMMENT BELOW AND TELL ME WHY!

April 23, 2018My first Julie Kagawa book was The Immortal Rules (I was doing a project on vampire lit) and it’s kinda weird, but worth the read!

April 24, 2018I really want to read Exit West, I’ve had it on my TBR since release. Good luck with Snow Like Ashes, I read earlier this year and really didn’t like it. Each to their own.
But also – SAGA!

April 29, 2018Same! I got it from the BOTM Club box when it came out because it just sounded so cool and the cover is lovely. I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet! And thank you on Snow Like Ashes – I hear very mixed reviews so I think I will go into it slightly cautious, haha!

May 2, 2018Hell, yeah! I don’t think I’ll be able to get to it in May or June, but maybe a little later this year if you haven’t read it by then? (But don’t feel like you have to wait on my account – I’m sure there are a million books we could buddy read if you want to go ahead and knock that one out! ♥)
