Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and is a super fun (and simultaneously productive) tag to help you whittle away at those never-ending TBRs! (By the way, you can click on the covers to go to the Goodreads listings!)
I decided to do 10 books per post instead of 5, otherwise we will literally never finish this meme series. EVER.
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
- Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!
Current “to-read” shelf: 994 titles (this somehow keeps going up… *whistles innocently*)

First, let me apologize because the next few titles are all presumably from Past Me going on a Bentley Little adding spree.
I really enjoyed the 4 or 5 books of Bentley’s that I’ve read, but the synopsis to this one (a creepy convenience store?) sounds pretty lackluster, so…

Book 17:

Totally unlike most of Bentley’s books, this one is actually a compilation of 32 short stories, and damn, do I love horror anthologies, so I’m definitely going to have to pick this one up soon.

Book 18:

This one actually sounds pretty intriguing, still: five strangers start having night terrors, each of them revolving around the houses they were born in. Plus, I actually own a copy of this one already.

Book 19:
Date added to shelf: Dec 30, 2013
I’m told that this one – about a terrifying and bizarre spa resort – is a bit similar to The Policy in vibes, which is one of my favorites of Bentley’s. Plus, it’s from the early- to mid-2000s, which seems to be my favorite “era” of Bentley Little books so far.

Book 20:
Date added to shelf: Dec 30, 2013
1. Can we talk about how god-awful most of the early 90s horror book covers are?
2. A creepy new mailman delivers mail that starts making people act super bizarre – nah, I’m good.

Book 21:
Date added to shelf: Dec 30, 2013
This is another one of his books that I already own, which makes this decision pretty easy, but it’s also about the dead coming back to walk the earth, which is always a nice setting.
The judgement: KEEP
Book 22:
Date added to shelf: Dec 30, 2013
This is actually one of Bentley’s lowest rated titles, and after glancing at a few reviews, I’m fairly certain I tried to read and DNFed this one a few years ago – probably during that wicked Goodreads hiatus where I never remembered to update anything.
The judgement: REMOVE
Book 23:
Date added to shelf: Dec 30, 2013
I love the cover for this one – a spooky carousel will pull me in every time – but the synopsis sounds pretty boring: a guy who’s always ignored finally gets noticed by someone, but that someone is out for evil revenge, etc.
The judgement: REMOVE
Book 24:
Date added to shelf: Jan 1, 2014
Yay, we’re out of the Bentley Little binge-fest! Funny story about this book, though – I bought a copy a year or so ago, and have somehow completely and hopelessly lost it. I’ve looked EVERYWHERE, and have no clue where this damn book has gotten off to. I know I didn’t loan it to anyone and I don’t think the cat got it, so maybe the house faeries have stolen it. Either way, it still sounds really good – it’s about eating disorders, and if Speak taught me anything, LHA is great at writing about tough topics.
The judgement: KEEP
Book 25:
Date added to shelf: Jan 28, 2014
I managed to nab an ebook of this one for a buck or two earlier this year and have been looking forward to getting around to it sooner or later. This is, from what I’m told, an incredibly sad, poignant, and beautiful story about a lesbian teen grieving the loss of her parents while navigating coming to terms with her own sexuality.

October 28, 2017Oh, awesome! I never meet other Bentley fans! His books are so weird and kooky and fun. I really enjoy them. I don’t read them too often, though, but I own several I haven’t gotten to yet.
