It’s time for a weekly check-in!
Another week flew by and somehow we’re coming up on the end of August. Make it make sense. 😅 I have a lot I’m hoping to get done before September 1st! I still have a few TBR picks to work on, I’m gonna try to knock out as many review copies as possible, and I haven’t even started on my September journal spreads. It’s just been such a busy month! 🤯 How’s August treating you all?
I finished 5 books this week, and 4 of them were amazing! We don’t need to talk about that DNF, though you can click the title if you wanna see my thoughts on it. One of these days, I’ll write up a whole discussion post on my issues with popular extreme horror books, but today isn’t that day. 😒 On a happier note, I LOVED my buddy read of King of Scars with Misty and Erin, and I’m so glad we’re starting Rule of Wolves this week! I also loved reading The Serpent & the Wings of Night with Misty — I fully get the hype.
- King of Scars // Leigh Bardugo → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Seed // Ania Ahlborn → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Party Games // Jon Athan → ❌ DNF ❌
- The Serpent and the Wings of Night // Carissa Broadbent → ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Delicate Condition // Danielle Valentine → ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

Well, it happened… my spouse gifted me a copy of Baldur’s Gate 3 and I started playing it. I’m not very far in, but I have Opinions™️ already and they’re all positive. 😻 My first character is a Tiefling Druid and I adore her! Is anyone else playing, and if so, what character build is your favorite to play so far?
Heads up: you can always friend me on Letterboxd if you wanna see my movie mini reviews!
What are you reading right now, or what did you recently finish? Is anything exciting happening in your life? Let me know in the comments!

August 24, 2023You already know I’m playing Baldur’s Gate 3 and shrimping over all the characters! I also got to rope Falco into playing as well and watching the chaos unfold has been delightful! My current build is a High Elf Ranger and the Speak With Animals perk is probably my favorite perk in the entire game so far. The spicy animal dialogue is chef’s kiss!

August 31, 2023I love that you got Falco to play BG3, too! 😀 Speak With Animals is SO much fun! ? I’m running that perk too and just trying to chat with every poor little animal I come across.

August 24, 2023baldur’s gate has truly been my much needed escapism these last 2 weeks! gloomstalker ranger 5, assassin rogue 4, battlemaster fighter 3 is…. is so strong + reminds me of the stealth archer build in skyrim <3 and it has such strong nova damage! (and half elf/half human for cardan + jude vibes we will say, ykyk hehe)
thank you for your message on insta <3 always sending you so much love, too.

August 25, 2023Seeing you rate The Serpent and the Wings of Night has me wanting to give it chance now! I’ve been skeptical because of the hype.

August 31, 2023I feel you, I was kind of skeptical too but I really loved it! I hope you do too!!

August 27, 2023I loved Seed! Yay for BG3! I’ve been hearing great things about that one.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
August 31, 2023Seed was so good! I didn’t love my first book of Ania’s so I was a little worried picking it up, but it was incredible and made me feel a lot more optimistic about reading more of her backlog! ♥
