August TBR & BuJo: ARC August and plenty of spookies!

August 1, 2023

Another month, another TBRΒ ~

July’s reading started off REALLY slow for me, but around the middle of the month, it picked up big time! Most of my July reads were graphic novels and manga, though, so I’m hoping August will involve more novels and novellas. My TBR is too long for me to keep ignoring it for all of these cute graphic novels I find at the library! πŸ˜…

July goal check-in:Β

  1. Catch up on reviews ❌ (Nope, still didn’t happen! Honestly, I just totally forgot this was one of my goals until a few days ago. RIP.)
  2. 3 blog & IG posts per week ❌ (NOPE! I fell off schedule BIG time because of the new job)
  3. Finish all of my “pre-July” current reads βŒ› (IΒ mostly succeeded at this one! The only pre-July read left on my shelf isΒ Dracula. I think I’ll just keep following along with the Dracula Daily schedule!)

My goals for August are:Β

Since the library’s summer reading program is over and the theme park we’ve been going to is changing to weekends-only hours next week, I’m hoping August will be a LOT quieter and involve a LOT more time sitting inside, reading in front of the air conditioner than July did. πŸ˜‚ Ya girl is TIRED. I’m giving up on the monthly “catch up on reviews” goal I’ve set for the past several months in a row, and instead, I think I’m going to give myself a weekly goal of writing a few overdue reviews per week until I’m done. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

  1. Read 50+ pages per day (haven’t done a daily page goal in a while!)
  2. 4 blog & IG posts per week (hoping to get back on track and then some this month!)
  3. Read as many ARCs as possible (I know, this isn’t a concrete goal, but I couldn’t think of a good one for #3 πŸ˜‚)

AUGUST’s picks:

This is very overdue, but I’m focusing on ARCs for August!

I’ve been taking a really laissez-faire approach to review copies over the past year or two, but I’m feeling a lot better about my ARC “obligations” these days and would like to get back into reviewing things before they release (or as close to their release date as possible). You’ll notice that most of this month’s TBR list is devoted to ARCs, but I also made myself a separate “ARC August” list that I’ll be pulling from as the mood strikes me throughout the month!

✨ How to Sell a Haunted House // Grady Hendrix β†’ This is one of my top priority overdue review copies and I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet, but I’m so excited to!

✨ Paradise-1 // David Wellington β†’ I’m a little nervous because this one’s THICC and I’ve seen really mixed reviews, but I’m hoping for the best!

✨ Maeve Fly // CJ Leede β†’ I have heard SO many people rave about this, and apparently it’s a little bit “extreme”, which is what I’m in the mood for right now.

✨ Night’s Edge // Liz Kerin β†’ I’m really looking forward to this, and it’s on my summer TBR. I’ve been off my game with my seasonal TBRs so far this year and I’m hoping this is the season I turn that around!

✨ Role Playing // Cathy Yardley β†’ This is the Books Out of the Blue discord server’s group read for the month and it sounds so cute! I love romances featuring characters who aren’t in their 20s (or even 30s) anymore.

✨ VenCo // Cherie Dimaline β†’ I’m buddy reading this one with Malli! This is totally just a mood read that sounded good, and when she asked if I wanted to read it together, I had to say yes! β™₯

✨ Getting it On with Gargoyles // Hazel Mack β†’ This one’s also a buddy read with Malli, though we’ve been waiting months for this one to release! How precious is this cover?!

August bujo spreads:

I changed things up again this month, and so far, this is the happiest I’ve been with any month of spreads I’ve ever made. πŸ₯° I hope I still like them this much by the end of the month, lol!

What are you reading this month?

    1. I’m so excited for our buddy reads this month! ? And your bullet journal spreads are so lovely, as always! I’m about to start my August bullet journal pages today, too.

    1. I need to hurry up and finish How to Sell a Haunted House ahh. Yes I’m also going for the “read as many arcs as possible” approach ? Love the bujo spread!

    1. I really want to read Maeve Fly. I have heard great reviews so I can’t wait to pick it up. Night’s Edge looks really cool. Also awesome Bujo spread. I love the TBR page. You also put cool graphics in it. Very spooky and giving fall vibes even though we aren’t there yet.

      1. Maeve Fly sounds so good! I keep hearing it’s kind of extreme and I’m in the mood for that so I’m looking forward to it. Do you want to buddy read it? And thank you very much!

Say hello! β™₯
