Thank you so much to Stephanie over at Stephanie’s Novel Fiction for tagging me! Steph is such a sweet person and I LOVE her blog, so you should definitely go follow her! ♡
1. Find a book on your shelves or ereader with a blue cover. What made you want to pick up this book?
I’m going with Girl Out of Water, which has a cover that is half blue, so that counts, right? I saw the cover on NetGalley and was intrigued, because I love beach-themed contemporaries.
2. Think of a book you didn’t expect to enjoy, but did. Why did you read it in the first place?
The Hunger Games! I had gotten away from reading YA a little bit when this book first came out, and I had to be convinced to give it a try by a friend at the time. I basically only agreed to read it to get that friend to stop nagging me, but I ended up falling in love with the characters and the story and devoured the rest of the books as they released. It’s still one of my all-time favorite series!
3. Stand in front of your bookshelf with your eyes closed and pick up a book at random. How did you discover this book?
I think The Troop was just on one of those Buzzfeed lists or whatever that’s like, “here are twelve horror books that scared Stephen King!” The good news is that my mom got it for me for my birthday last year. The bad news is that I still haven’t read it. The other good news is that she borrowed it and loved it. The other bad news is that I have a phobia of worms, and she told me she thinks this book might trigger some sort of panic episode. Needless to say, I’m saving it for a day when I’m feeling particularly brave (or masochistic).
4. Pick a book that someone personally recommended to you. What did you think of it?
A book that someone personally recommended to me recently was Furiously Happy, and while I think Jenny Lawson is a very funny human being, I actually had to set aside the book because I wasn’t in a solid enough mental state and found a lot of it extremely triggering. I’d love to pick this one back up some time when I’m feeling better, though.
5. Pick a book that you discovered through YouTube / book blogs. Did it live up to the hype?
A recent read that was I found through book blogs was Final Girls, and as far as my thoughts on it go… well, you can read my rant review here.
6. Find a book on your shelves or ereader with a one-word title. What drew you to this book?
The most recent one-word title I added to my collection was Forbidden, which is still on my TBR list, but it was $1.99 and I’d heard that it was dark, twisted, and interesting – all of which are adjectives I’m particularly fond of in my reading material.
7. What book did you discover through a film / TV adaptation?
Howl’s Moving Castle! I love Studio Ghibli films and the adaptation of this one is one of my all-time favorite animated films. I actually fell in love with the film many, many years before finding out that it was an adaptation of a highly-loved MG book. I still haven’t read the book, actually, because I’m afraid I can’t possibly love it as much as I love the movie.
8. Think of your all-time favorite book(s). When did you read these and why did you pick them up in the first place?
I have way too many favorites, so I just picked 5 random titles from my “book-is-life” shelf on GR.
The Only Alien on the Planet: I don’t know exactly when I first read this one, but it was 2006 or earlier, and I picked it up on a whim from a library shelf because I thought it would be a sci-fi book. (Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.)
The Hunger Games: 2008-ish? See answer to question #2.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: I first read this when it was a fairly new release – either 2003 or 2004 – and I picked it up because I loved the series and had to continue it, duh.
