This is a weekly tag hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and this week’s challenge is a throwback freebie!
I decided to pick ten YA books off of my TBR that were published at least 10 years ago. I’ve ordered them from oldest to newest!
1. Remember Me – Christopher Pike
Published: 1989
I’m not sure how I came to possess this book, but I figure I should read it eventually, especially given the fact that I remember enjoying Pike’s writing a lot as a teen.
2. Sabriel – Garth Nix
Published: 1995
I actually read this one years and years ago – some time in my mid-teens – but I barely remember anything about it, so it’s high on my TBR to reread (and to continue the series!).
3. Dangerous Girls – R.L. Stine
Published: 1998
A YA vampire story that I definitely bought at a used bookstore well over a decade ago… and still haven’t read.
4. Tithe – Holly Black
Published: 2002
Like Sabriel, this is a book that I have read before, but it’s been so long that I hardly remember it. I did recently re-purchase this when I found it for a few dollars on BookOutlet!
5. Poison Study – Maria V. Snyder
Published: 2005
This has been on my Goodreads TBR for a while because the synopsis sounded intriguing, but I actually had no idea it was this old until compiling this list!
6. Burned – Ellen Hopkins
Published: 2006
I own every single YA “poetry” book Ellen Hopkins has ever released, and this series might be the only ones I haven’t read yet, aside from her newest release. I used to adore her books as a teen, but I find myself conflicted about them as an adult (I sometimes worry that she has crossed the line into exploiting these topics); either way, though, I’ll still pick this up eventually.
7. Beastly – Alex Flinn
Published: 2007
I remember seeing the trailer for the film adaptation of this book, and being intrigued by the synopsis while having no real interest in watching the film, so here we are. Ten years later.
8. The Name of the Wind – Patrick Rothfuss
Published: 2007
This is another book that I didn’t realize was a decade old until making this post, because I somehow only heard about it a year or so ago! I know this is technically marketed as adult fantasy, but I’m told it has crossover appeal (like the Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab), so I’m counting it, anyways.
Plus, I mean, it’s my blog, so… *sticks tongue out*
9. City of Bones – Cassandra Clare
Published: 2007
If you’ve been around here a while, you already know this series is pretty high on my TBR, but I’ve been putting it off for years. Those of you who love Cassandra Clare’s books will be happy to know that I finally purchased a copy of City of Bones and it should be here in my next book haul, and I’m planning to start it at the beginning of the new year!
10. Vampire Academy – Richelle Mead
Published: 2007
I know, another series that everyone seems to have read except me! I hear it’s kind of mediocre by today’s standards for YA paranormal, but I want to read this one and determine that for myself.

September 12, 2017I’ve been meaning to read The Kite Runner for years now. I don’t know what’s stopping me. Great take on the topic.
Happy reading,

September 12, 2017I love the SABRIEL series, if my vote counts for anything, start with that book! Enjoy! My TTT

September 12, 2017The only one of R.L. Stine’s books I’ve read is Monster Blood but I don’t think I ever finished it because it was towards the end of the school year. I tried to make it a personal mission to read all of the Goosebumps books but I didn’t realise how many there are so I quickly gave up on that ?

September 12, 2017I’ve been meaning to read Poison Study as well! A friend recommended it to me years ago, but I’ve never managed to read it. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.

September 16, 2017Aw thank you! <3

September 13, 2017I’ve been wanting to read In the Name of the Wind for ages, but it’s just so daunting ?
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
September 16, 2017It definitely is! Plus, every time I go to buy it, it’s like $20-25, and most of the books I buy are like, $12 at the most… and I’m a cheapskate… the struggle is real. LMAO

September 13, 2017To be completely honest and blunt, The Infernal Devices is better than The Mortal Instruments. I think City of Bones is OK, but I ADORED Clockwork Prince as far as first books go.

September 16, 2017I’ve heard a LOT of people say that! I’m funny about series set in the same universe – like, I refuse to read Six of Crows until I finish the Grisha trilogy – but a lot of people have told me, if I don’t enjoy TMI, to either drop it and move on to TID, or to power through because TID is worth it, lol!
KliScruggs
September 18, 2017hah I totally understand that! I know a lot of diehards recommend reading them in publication order, so if you decide to do that you’ll come to TID sooner than later 🙂 Though, I also understand people who want to read the serieses in order.

September 13, 2017City of Bones is one that I keep meaning to read too. My students are always obsessed with it!

September 16, 2017I feel like almost everyone loves it, so I should check it out!

September 13, 2017Such a fantastic list, some really great titles. I am happy to hear you have made City of Bones a priority. Haha. I had honestly never even heard of the series until I started dating my partner. His whole family had read it and were obsessed with it. It took me two goes to get into City of Bones, but once I got passed the first few chapters I couldn’t put it down.

September 16, 2017Thank you! Oh yes, it’s high on my list! I map out my TBRs pretty far in advance, so my TBRs are already set through the end of this year, but I’m putting it on my January TBR right at the top. 🙂

September 13, 2017This is such a great idea for this throwback freebie!! So many great choices, too. I read Burned and its sequel back soon after they first released and loved them. I have the same feelings on Hopkins now though – I’ve always enjoyed reading her books, but I do sometimes worry that she’s kind of exploiting these topics (and her daughter’s experiences). It’s definitely a complicated situation for me because I still LOVE her writing. Tithe is one that I’d love to reread too. I remember NOTHING about that book, haha. I can’t even remember if I ever actually finished reading it!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
September 16, 2017Thank you! Yessss, I’m glad someone gets what I’m saying! It’s difficult because her writing style is so unique and enjoyable to read for me, but at the same time, something about it unsettles me a little – not in the “wow, this book is raw” way, but in the “are her motives in the right place?” way. 🙁
Kourtni @ Kourtni Reads
September 16, 2017I couldn’t agree more!!
Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense
September 14, 2017I loved Poison Study, but I never got around to finishing the series. Still, I enjoyed it so much that I ended up purchasing the whole series, plus the authors Glass series. I just need to find time to binge read them all.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
September 16, 2017Oooh, nice! That’s a good thing to hear! I think I’m going to add the first book to my shopping list.

September 17, 2017I have The Name of the Wind still standing on my tbr shelf as well. And I recently got the Sabriel books in Dutch since I’ve been meaning to get to those.
