I’ve been considering trying out this meme for months, and I finally decided to go for it! This is Down the TBR Hole from Lost in a Story, and it looks like a super fun (and simultaneously productive) post that I’ve enjoyed reading from other bloggers, so here we go! (By the way, you can click on the covers to go to the Goodreads listings!)
It works like this:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
- Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!
Current “to-read” shelf: 952 titles
Book 1:
Date added to shelf: Dec 9, 2012
This book has been on my TBR for what feels like my entire life, and I swear, I WILL read it. Eventually. Someday.
The judgement: KEEP
Book 2:
Date added to shelf: Dec 9, 2012
Funny thing about this one is that I’ve actually read it, but I never updated it on Goodreads way back when, and now I remember almost none of it… so… hmn.
The judgement: KEEP
Book 3:
Date added to shelf: Dec 9, 2012
“Whaaat? You haven’t read Hitchhiker’s Guide, Destiny? But you’ve seen the movie a dozen times!” I know, guys, I know. I’m getting around to it sooner or later. (My fiance would prefer “sooner”, as in, RIGHT THIS MOMENT, because it’s his fave, but sadly, it hasn’t happened yet.)
The judgement: KEEP
Book 4:
Date added to shelf: Dec 9, 2012 (I was busy that day!)
I’m actually shocked to realize this has been on my to-read shelf for so long, because someone showed me this graphic novel a few weeks ago and I was SHOOK to learn that it existed. I guess I had blocked it from memory. I actually have it from the library right now and it’s on my October TBR.
The judgement: KEEP
Book 5:
Date added to shelf: Feb 23, 2013
I know very little about this series other than the fact that it’s written by Patrick Ness, who appears to be a literary god as far as I can tell? Oh, and everyone I’ve ever heard talk about it loved it. So…
The judgement: KEEP
Well, that was… probably kind of counter-productive. I think the goal is this exercise is to remove some books from the list. Whoops! Maybe next week, I’ll knock at least one out. ?

October 8, 2017Thanks for sharing! I may have to join in on this meme!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 8, 2017Oh, please do! I had a blast doing the first post and have already scheduled the second one because it’s so quick and easy, haha!
Flavia
October 9, 2017Awe I want to! The only other issue is that I went through my Goodreads TBR like last week and did a lot of deleting ?? maybe I should just go through it again?
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 12, 2017I would totally just go through again, but that might be me being extra ??
Flavia
October 16, 2017Hehehehe I may just have to! Might start in November though, since I’m behind on writing reviews (I have to write 4 of them right now), and I still have like 3 more books to read this month. Why do I do this to myself?
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 21, 2017I feel you! Haha it’s the worst. I go through spells where I’m really good at reviewing books ASAP for a while, and then suddenly I’m neck-deep in six current reads and I have five in “RTC” status and I’m just like, WHY AM I LIKE THIS?!
Flavia
October 24, 2017Hahahaha you’re not alone! I’ve talked about this with more and more book bloggers lately!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 28, 2017Lmao I’m glad it isn’t just me! I’m slowly but surely trying to get back on top of things. I’ve sadly been kind of half-assing my blog and social media lately and it occurred to me last night that doing so has made me really unhappy with the content I’ve been putting out, so I’m actually devoting this weekend to tackling some stuff and getting everything back in order!
Flavia
October 30, 2017Yeah! And I hope that you had an awesome and productive weekend! I know what you mean about content, because I’ve had months when I was slacking and it did also really affect my mood. Our blogs are supposed to be our happy place haha so now I try to put as much time into it as I can 🙂

October 8, 2017I would have had just as hard of a time cutting almost all of these! My partner wants me to read “Hitchhiker’s Guide” pretty badly! Then again he wants me to read all these sci-fi and fantasy books, whereas I am much more mystery and contemporary focused. I loved reading this and think I may do this later today myself!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 8, 2017Oooh, please do! I would love to read yours! It’s such a fun and easy post. I’m planning on making it my weekly Sunday post until I either run out of TBR titles (HAHA, as if!) or people get bored of seeing them, lol!
Lia
October 8, 2017Thanks for joining! I hope you’ll be able to remove more books next time haha
I can definitely recommend The Hitchhiker’s Guide! I loved it!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 8, 2017Thanks for creating this post! It’s so fun and I love the idea behind it!
Sionna (Books in Her Eyes)
October 8, 2017Hahaha not so productive, but it can’t be helped when those are the first five books you came across!! Those are definitely keepers. Even as someone, not a huge fan of aliens and high sci-fi, I really enjoyed The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so I hope you enjoy it too when you get it to 🙂
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 8, 2017Bahaha, right? I looked at them and was like, well geez, I was doomed from the start this week! Ooooh, awesome. I do enjoy sci-fi from time to time so I’m fairly confident I’ll love it once I get around to it! 🙂
Danielle @ The Introverted Book Nerd
October 8, 2017Even if you didn’t get rid of any I think you made good choices in keeping these!!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 8, 2017Thanks, Danielle! I think so, too. 😀

October 8, 2017I need to try this, but I have a feeling I’ll end up keeping most on there anyways.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 8, 2017Yes, I have a feeling I’ll be keeping a LOT of my TBR titles!

October 8, 2017I love this idea!

October 8, 2017It’s so fun! 😀
Plot Monster
October 8, 2017It by Stephen King is also on my TBR. Hoping to read this month.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 8, 2017Oh awesome, good luck!!
Plot Monster
October 8, 2017Thanks!

October 8, 2017Love this idea! Great post! I’m desperate to read Stephen King’s It too!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 8, 2017Hopefully we will both get around to it sooner rather than later! Thank you!

October 8, 2017knife of never letting go has been on mine for a hot second too…………i’ll get there.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 8, 2017I hear it’s such a good series. The only thing I’ve read by him was A Monster Calls and that wrecked me so thoroughly that I’m mildly terrified to ever trust Patrick with my heart and emotions EVER AGAIN… but the spirit is weak and the book-flesh is willing, or something? (That sounded creepier than I intended)
Ginger Mom
October 8, 2017I am a very big Stephen King fan but I just don’t know about It. Kinda scared to pick it up. I loved Desperation (one of my favorites of his…creepy lol). But I just don’t know about It. Let me know what you think when you finally get to it.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 8, 2017It’s a massive book! I have a short little paperback of it and I believe it’s something like 1,100 pages, with tiny print. I think I would have to get a larger version of it, but what I have is just one I found for a buck at a thrift shop years ago. 🙂 Will do!
aravenclawlibrary
October 9, 2017This sounds like a good idea. I think I need to do this as well! lol.
Kathy @ Books & Munches
October 9, 2017I didn’t even start looking at what books you had on your list when I was already thinking “She’s definitely keeping them all. Without a doubt.”
DESTINY, YOU’RE THE WORST for proving me right, haha! xD
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 12, 2017LMAO ??? I’m dying. I love it

October 9, 2017hahahahahaha, i love it!!!! girl, you made me laugh! but i totally understand you, especially when it comes to “it”, “the hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy (which is sooooo aweseome) and “the knife of never letting go”. i wouldn’t get rid of those either! 😀
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 12, 2017? I aim to please! I really need to read Hitchhiker’s Guide asap!

October 13, 2017yeeees!!!

October 9, 2017I’m in the middle of reading It right now! Although I predict it’ll take me another couple of months to finish… Also—House of Leaves is one of my favorite books!
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 12, 2017Oh, I definitely feel like It will take me FOREVER whenever I get to it ?

October 9, 2017I’m so glad you joined in this on this!! It’s such a fun way to go through your TBR list.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 12, 2017It really is! I’m having a blast doing it! I kind of want to go ahead and schedule the next dozen or so of them ?
bookishinbed
October 13, 2017I did that when I went away and it was so much fun. I feel it’s one of the easiest types of posts to do. I could spend hours doing them.
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
October 15, 2017I honestly have to hold myself back from binge filling these posts and just scheduling them for months out lmao
