WWW Wednesday: July 23, 2025
Hi, everyone!Β This post is pretty delayed because I just have barely been reading AT ALL for the past month or two, up until this week. I’ve been in a major reading mood this week, though, so I’m hoping the slump has passed. π€ I’m trying something new with my WWW posts this week and adding more of my thoughts on my reads, so let me know what you guys think! I’m also really feeling the content creation “itch” lately, so I’m hoping I can harness that soon and start making some videos and posting on here more often!
1. What did you read last?
- Bury Your Gays β I DNFed this at about 20% because I was so bored and hated the main character. Unfortunately, that makes 2/2 on me hating Chuck Tingle’s characters and DNFing his books, so I think I should accept that his writing isn’t for me. π
- The Ashes & the Star-Cursed King β βββββ This was a reread with Misty and I loved it even more than the first time we buddy read this! Raihn is just so freaking precious and I can’t wait to continue the series.
- Alley β ββββ This is a Junji Ito collection that got re-published and I’ve been meaning to read it for a while now. I enjoyed it! It wasn’t a new standout fave of his books but it was fun.
- In the Tall Grass β ββββ I love it when Stephen and Joe write stuff together! This story was REALLY dark and actually unsettled me quite a bit with the ending!
- Meat Eaters β ββββ I actually read this a couple of weeks ago and forgot to log it, so I just put it on whatever day I remembered. I don’t remember much about it other than enjoying it. π
- Horror Collector, Vol. 1: The Faceless Kid β Another DNF, but this one was just because it wasn’t for me/what I was expecting. I thought it would be a manga, but it was a light novel and I couldn’t get into it.
- The Raping of Ava DeSantis β ββ This book had been on my TBR for AGES! I’m glad I finally read it, but it was a pretty big disappointment. The author originally was a ghostwriter for film scripts and I can see why, because this would’ve been soooo much better as a movie! The plot was interesting (though thin), but the characters and dialogue all felt straight out of a straight-to-VOD horror flick.
- Summer Vamp β ββββ This was really cute! A human kid accidentally ends up at vampire summer camp, but ends up making friends. I liked the subtle themes that sometimes, when we think people don’t like us, it’s just us misunderstanding them and vice-versa. Sometimes, we’ve gotta open up to the possibilities instead of assuming the worst about people we barely know!
2. What are you currently reading?
- The Buffalo Hunter Hunter β I’m 52% in and I really want to finish this soon. I’ve LOVED it so far! It’s just that feeling slumpy had me pulling away from emotionally tough reads, and this one is definitely heavy.
- Gothikana β I’m 53% in and I literally forgot I was reading this. OOPS. I should hurry up and finish it! I remember pretty well what was happening where I left off. It hasn’t wowed me so far, but it’s been fun enough.
- Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng β I’m 38% in, and this one has been the same issue as TBHH, where it was just a little too heavy for me during my slump. I’d really like to finish both of them this week, though!
- Her Soul to Take (reread) β I’m 73% in and I just kind of forgot I was listening to this one. π But it’s been fun, though not as good as the first time I read it.
- I Found a Circus Tent in the Woods Behind My House β I’m 38% in and, I’ll be honest, I’m just not feeling super sucked into this. That said, I do still plan on finishing it! It just hasn’t hooked me.
- Camp Slaughter β 14% in, and this is another one that really hasn’t hooked me yet. The beginning feels very much like a B-flick, complete with loads of fat-shaming.
- The Curse That Binds β I’m 51% into this buddy read with Misty and I am absolutely LOVING this book so far! I already loved Memnon in Bewitched and Bespelled, but I somehow love him even more in this.
- Making Out with Mermaids β I’m only 8% into this, but unfortunately, I already feel like it’s going to be yet another disappointment in this series. π
- Your Shadow Half Remains β I’m 39% into this and I’m intrigued! I keep wondering why it has such poor reviews, because so far, it’s felt rather ‘meh’ but not in an unforgivable way. I keep waiting to see if it will get worse, lol!
- Haunt Sweet Home β I’m 14% into this and don’t have any opinions on it so far, but I’m hoping I’ll enjoy it, because I really love paranormal investigation shows as a horror backdrop!
- The Liminal Zone, Vol. 2 β I’ve only read the first story so far, so I’m 8% in, but I’m enjoying it!
3. What will you read next?
- Adrift in Currents Clean and Clear β I have the audiobook checked out from the library and I’m really looking forward to finally picking up the newest entry in this series!

July 23, 2025Oh no I havenβt started Bury Your Gays yet but now Iβm worried. This will be my first book by this author. Have you watched the movie for In the Tall Grass? I need a Raihn of my own. I canβt wait to hear your thoughts on the Seanan McGuire book. Also I love that you included your thoughts on all of the books.
