T10T: Series I Want to Read (or Finish!) in 2019

December 11, 2018

TTT-Big2

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly blog meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week is a freebie, and I was originally going to do something wintry, but decided I’d kill two birds with one stone by using this as an opportunity to tackle one of my end-of-year posts: series I want to read in 2019!

Series to Start:

111.jpg
1. The Dark Artifices — Cassandra Clare
I know, everyone else is finishing this trilogy while I’m getting prepared to begin it. ?
444.jpg
2. Monsters of Verity — Victoria Schwab
I’m definitely ready to finally pick up Victoria’s YA work, as I’ve only read her adult and MG titles so far!
222.jpg
3. Arc of a Scythe — Neal Shusterman
I definitely want to start this series in 2019, but I’m probably not going to read book 2 until it draws near to book 3’s release date since I hear book 2 has such an intense cliffhanger!
666.jpg
4. Strange the Dreamer — Laini Taylor
As many of you know, I’ve actually begun the first book before and hit a horrible fantasy slump, but I am REALLY excited to restart it soon and read the duology.
333.jpg
5. The Lotus Wars — Jay Kristoff
I’ll be reading Godsgrave soon and DEV1AT3 when it comes out (unless the ARC gods bless me again), but otherwise, I’m pretty sure I’ll need some fun Kristoff reading to work on while I wait for Darkdawn!

Series to Finish:

555.jpg
6. The Lunar Chronicles — Marissa Meyer
I’ve read the first 3 novels and Fairest, so in 2019, I want to reread Cress and finally pick up Winter as well as finishing the short stories!
24944889
7. The Mortal Instruments — Cassandra Clare
I binged the TMI and TID series like hell this year and read 8 CC books in 9 months, I think? By the time I reached CoHF, I was edging on burnout in the world, so I decided to set it aside and give myself a break for a couple of months before picking up CoHF and then moving on to the rest of the Shadowhunters books in 2019!
777.jpg
8. Mara Dyer — Michelle Hodkin
Reg and I had a lot of fun buddy reading the first book over the summer, and we keep saying we’re going to continue the trilogy together, so I’m hoping she’ll be game to buddy read books 2 and 3 with me in 2019!
888.jpg
9. The Nevernight Chronicle — Jay Kristoff
I’ve been putting off Godsgrave for waaaay too long because of the epic cliffhanger everyone always talks about, but I plan on reading it early in 2019 and then joining the masses in the agonizing wait for Darkdawn’s release.
33590260
10. Throne of Glass — Sarah J. Maas
This is definitely my first priority from this entire list: finally reading Kingdom of Ash! I have adored this series so much but I haven’t read the finale yet because I just haven’t been ready to say goodbye, so I finally decided a few days ago to set KoA aside until January and to give myself some time to prepare for the end. ♥

Do you have any series you want to start or finish in 2019? Let me know in the comments!

    1. I have not been able to get into The Dark Artifices it took me two goes and a really long time to read lady midnight! I did enjoy it by the end however it just didn’t draw me in like the others. So I am yet to move onto the rest of that series. Arc of a Scythe is at the top of my want to buy and read pile it looks so interesting! I also have been putting off Godsgrave for ages!!! lucky I have not been too spoiled for it so this will be on my list for next year in order to get ready for Dark dawn! I also need to still read KoA as I am also not ready to say goodbye! Good luck with your reading in 2019!

      1. Oh no, I hope the rest of the TDA series is better for you! The TID series was like that for me, I just really struggled getting into it and didn’t even like the first book at all very much. And I feel you on Godsgrave, I’m so grateful to not have been spoiled for too much! I have been spoiled for one fairly big plot point but it’s not the ending or anything. Thank you Tamika, good luck to you too and happy reading! ♥♥

    1. Awesome list! I really need to read the Monsters of Verity books, and I hope you ADORE the arc of a Scythe books! I LOVE THEM! Happy reading, boo! ?

    1. winter is so worth the wait! best of the series for SURE. and i liked scythe well enough but it was a tad,, overhyped?? imo
i desperately need to catch up in tda series too. i’m up to lord of shadows myself but because i reread the whole shadowhunter chronicles beforehand, i am so scared of burning out. i’m so close i can taste it !! yet i don’t know if i’d be better to wait to january to finish them?? decisions ?
best of luck with all these goals, though. i’m sure you’ll smash it

      1. I do feel like Scythe has been CRAZY hyped which makes me a little nervous ? I’m actually reading my first Neal Shusterman book this week and I’m excited, though. I REALLY want to read his new book with his son, Dry.
Ooooh I feel you! If you’re feeling at risk of burnout, I would totally wait a little bit so you can enjoy them more! ?
Thank you love!! Good luck to you too! ☺️

    1. We have a lot of similar books here…
I had never heard of Cassandra Clare before May of this year, I think. I started with TMI and read all of her major series this year, finishing Queen of Air and Darkness yesterday. Read Strange and Muse this year too. For 2019, I’d like to finish the Throne of Glass books, read the Lunar Chronicles and Monsters of Verity, and the Scythe books sound good too. Although I read a ton this year, there is a lot more out there to read!

      1. The first Mara book really was fun! I wasn’t sure what to expect from it but the narrator is so unreliable that it’s really interesting to try and sort out what’s actually happening. 🙂

    1. Love your list! And just be glad you waited with The Dark Artifices, I’m happy I fingered all of them over the last two weeks, the ending of Lord of Shadows would’ve killed me! Although now the epilogue of QoAaD is slowly torturing me haha 😉
There are way to many series I need to finish but I think my priorities are with Daughter of Smoke and Bone (1 book left), Half Bad (2 books left), The Blackheart legacy (1 book left), His Fair Assassins (1 book left before the new series) and Snow Like Ashes (2 books left).

    1. I’m actually pretty much the same as you when it comes to CC’s books, except I read CoHF and read 9 books in 9 months. I didn’t expect to like her books at all and picked up the TMI series for like £6 so I didn’t feel like I had anything to lose and ended up falling in love with the world and her writing so much more than I was expecting! I’m planning on reading TDA soon, but I’ve asked for the books for Christmas so I have to wait and see if I get them first haha!

      1. That’s awesome! Haha same here on not expecting to love them, and then being surprised – I thought they’d be just “okay” and then I fell head over heels for her writing and characters. I hope you get TDA! ♥

      1. If you enjoy fairytale retellings you should definitely give TLC a try! The first book is a little slow to me but it is very intriguing and the pacing picks up a lot in book 2. Mostly it’s just so cool to see how far she took it from the source material while it’s still clear who each main character is inspired by.

    1. I’m always hesitant to add more series to my TBR add I’m committing to multiple books at once but some of these in definitely itching to read as well. Maybe 2019 will be the year of series for me?!
I wrote about my favorite books of 2018 this week: https://wp.me/p7gI3D-1ff.

    1. I have a lot of series I want to finish in 2019: Shades of Magic, Mara Dyer, Strange the Dreamer, and Cleopatra’s Daughter series 😀 I’m horrible with series so I made commitment that I can only start new series once I finished ones I have. I want to start The Dark Artifices, Scythe, and The Winner’s Curse, so I need to finish those series first!

    1. This is a great post! I want to start Scythe and finish the Nevernight Chronicle in 2018. I hope you enjoy TDA and Strange the Dreamer. They were two of mt favorites.

    1. You haven’t read Stormdancer yet?? Oh you must. That series was my introduction to Kristoff and I loved each book?

    1. I have Monsters of Verity, Arc of Scythe and Strange the Dreamer series and I haven’t picked them up yet lol. They are on my 2019 radar. I just finished Cinder recently (extremely late, I know) and picked up the rest of the series. I’m a series binger! You should think about hosting a buddy read for 2019 on some of these series! I would definitely join.

      1. I wish so badly that I was a series binger! I don’t think I have ever been much of one, but maybe I should give it a try and see how it works for me. I do love the idea for the buddy reads in 2019, I might just do that! Thank you Bri! ♥♥

    1. This was such a great idea! I have sososo many series to read as well and if only I could get to them all before 2019 ? Scythe is one that’s definitely been on my list for awhile too and I’m a little ashamed I haven’t read it yet. I hope you end up loving all of these books!
      Here’s my TTT!

    1. The Dark Artifaces is on my 2019 list too. I’ve bought each book as it released each year but wanted to wait for it being complete before beginning as I hate the cliffhangers!
KoA is another high on my TBR but I think I’ll be reading that during Christmas break.
The Lunar Chronicles is one I hope to read soon. I love those covers!

      1. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who does that with series sometimes. ? I hope you enjoy KoA and that you get to start TLC soon! The TLC covers were what originally drew me in, too, and what I think is neat is that unlike a lot of YA releases of their time, I still think the covers hold up so well to today’s cover trends and standards. 🙂

    1. Me too with The Dark Artifices. They are just so big! I will definitely tackle them the beginning of 2019. I also think this year I will read more Kay Kristoff.

    1. OH I hope you’ll read This Savage Song, I only read the first book in the series so far, but I really liked it. I love the Lunar Chronicles SO MUCH and Mara Dyer, just as well, I hope you’ll enjoy them 🙂

    1. Ahh, I’m sooo with you on Kingdom of Ash. I put a pause on my reading it because I was like, yeah, I am going to devour this too quickly and I’m not ready to say goodbye! I already miss the series and I am only like halfway through KOA. I really enjoyed the Mara Dyer trilogy so hopefully you like the conclusion once you get to it! And, I can see why you’d be a little burned out on the CC books after reading so many in a row–even I feel a little winded after rereading one or, in this weeks case, finishing The Dark Artifices.

    1. I’ve been making a list for 2019 as well. Some of these are also on mine. Let me know if you need a buddy to read The Lotus Wars with. I have only read the first book but I am wanting to reread it before I finish the series. Kingdom of Ash is also another priority for me.
      Good luck!

    1. I’m currently very slowly working my way through Kingdom of Ash-it’s so huge that reading it in large sittings is kind of intimidating, so I’m going to try and finish it next year as well. I’m also planning on reading Strange The Dreamer next year, and I need to catch up with the Scythe series, I’ve read Scythe but not Thunderhead yet. I hope you enjoy the Monsters of Verity, I’m reading the second one at the moment!

    1. I don’t feel so bad that I am not the only one who hasn’t read Strange the Dreamer yet. I keep meaning to start it but then I get distracted and suddenly here I am. I love how you broke up your list though! Good luck with all of these! 🙂

    1. Strange the Dreamer was my FAVORITE BOOK of 2017! I desperately want to re-read it so that I can drool over Muse of Nightmares! *_*
I have not read a Jay Kristoff book yet, but I’ll admit I’m intrigued??? So many people read his books, so that MUST mean something!
I also need to go back into the Throne of Glass series and read Tower of Dawn, then Kingdom of Ash. I might even need to re-read Empire of Storms because it’s been a whiiiiile. But I don’t think I’ll finish that before 2019 is here. ;D My slow reading is something I want to work on next year for sure!
      My Top Ten Tuesday! xo

      1. Awww, excellent! I really can’t wait to pick Strange back up!
Jay Kristoff is one of my absolute favorite authors and I cannot recommend his work highly enough! His writing style is just incredibly unique and distinctive and his sense of humor is AMAZING. ♥

    1. Omg PLEASE read the Strange the Dreamer books! They’re incredible!! Also I ADORED Kingdom of Ash and I really didn’t think I would — I reckon you’re going to love it!
      happy reading ?

    1. I have every single one of these series on my 2019 TBR except for the Mara Dyer series. How will I ever finish? ???

      1. And I’m also am putting KOA on pause. I reached the half way point but I’m not ready for it to end. Ahhh.

    1. Oh yes I love this post! Of course I am down to continue the series with you in 2019. I really want to see what’s going to happen next. That ending was so shocking. I deff want to do this theme. So many series I want to start and finish. I am currently reading Thunderhead right now and it’s soooo good. I am nervous about that intense cliffhanger.

      1. Thank you! Aw, yaaaaay! We should definitely see if we can make time for Mara Dyer soon ♥ And I’m glad you’re enjoying Thunderhead, I just hope the cliffhanger doesn’t treat you too badly because I’ve heard a lot about that being rough!

        1. Maybe we can fit it in during January. If not deff in February. Oh man yeah I am super nervous for this ending. I have been taking it slow. Not ready for it at all.

    1. I really want to start Scythe as well. It sounds so good. I just read Lord of Shadows, and man you better have Queen of Air and Darkness ready to grab when you finish it. ._.

    1. I’m doing a post like this as well later this month – I think? I should check my schedule and maybe actually start prepping the darn post.. Oopsies.
      ANYWAY.
Thunderhead really ends with a cliffhanger if Gust’s reaction was anything to go by. He rarely finishes a book, but he finished both of those in a little over a month? And he was SO MAD when I had to tell him the next installment isn’t released yet so.. :’) [For someone who rarely gets mad over stuff, that’s a.. well.. y’know.]
I’m going to reread all Shadowhunter books in 2019 so I better NOT beat you to reading them all, okay?! OKAY?! I’m probably going to hold off on Queen of Air and Darkness until I reread everything since I feel like I’ve forgotten way too many things from the previous two books and I don’t want to regret reading it too soon. :/

      1. LMAO, thank you for the Thunderhead heads-up because that sounds pretty impressive. ?
Oh god. If you beat me to them with you rereading everything, I will be SO ASHAMED lmao!! Because like… that’s a lot of books!

        1. Right? It actually has me scared to even read Scythe.. :’) Knowing how mad I’ve gotten in the past over cliffhangers.. :’)
Now I feel like this will be my personal challenge, simply to motivate YOU to read those books. xD [Alas, I think I have my TMI-books fucking packed already.. F*** me..]

          1. Hm… I guess you could wait until the 3rd book comes out next year and binge the series? Someone told me book 1 doesn’t have a cliffhanger so I think I’ll read Scythe some time during mid-2019 or so and save Thunderhead for right before the 3rd book’s release? Not sure. >_>
            Bahahaha ?? Foiled again!

Say hello! ♥
